Naturopathic Doctor and Certified myoActivation Practitioner

What I love about myoActivation® is that it helps uncover the real source of pain, not just where it hurts, but why. When you release those underlying patterns, the results can be life-changing.

About Tara

Hi, I’m Dr. Tara Sloan, ND, a Naturopathic Doctor with a passion for helping people move better, feel better, and live with less pain. Some of you may remember me from the early days of Continuum! After time spent growing a practice on the west end the city and raising my family, I’m so happy to be back where it all began.

As a Naturopathic Doctor, my approach has always been about supporting the body’s natural ability to heal, whether through movement, nutrition, or hands-on therapies. Over the past few years, I’ve focused on treating pain, injuries, scars & scar tissue, and mobility challenges by combining science-based assessment with a whole-person perspective.

After personally experiencing the profound effects of myoActivation®, I trained directly with its founder, Dr. Greg Siren, MD, and became certified in this innovative technique. It’s a gentle, precise form of needling that releases fascial tension, improves movement, relieves pain, and enhances the function and appearance of scars.

My background in kinesiology and anatomy complements my Naturopathic work beautifully, blending structure, physiology, and natural healing to create lasting results. I continue to provide comprehensive Naturopathic Care for individuals and families, addressing everything from pain and fatigue to hormonal and digestive health.

I’m currently available on Thursdays, with plans to expand my hours as my practice grows. I look forward to reconnecting with familiar faces and meeting new ones!

What is myoActivation®?

myoActivation® is a precise, hands-on needling therapy that identifies and releases hidden patterns of tension within the body’s fascia — the connective tissue that links muscles, joints, and organs. Developed by Dr. Greg Siren, MD, this innovative approach combines movement-based assessment with gentle needling techniques to address the root causes of pain and restriction, not just the symptoms.

By restoring normal fascial mobility and muscle activation, myoActivation® can relieve chronic or acute pain, improve movement, and enhance the body’s natural healing capacity. Many patients notice improvements not only in pain and mobility but also in the appearance and function of scars, including keloid scars, C-section and post-surgical scars that may have felt tight or restricted for years.

What to Expect During a Session

myoActivation® uses a research-based assessment method that sets it apart from other needling therapies. Each session begins with a series of proprietary movement and postural tests that reveal the hidden fascial restrictions behind chronic pain and mobility issues.

Dr. Tara Sloan, ND, then uses precise, gentle needling techniques to release those areas and restore healthy movement patterns. Clients may feel a mild “twitch” or release as the tissue lets go, followed by a sense of lightness or freedom in movement. The treatment is generally well tolerated, with most people describing it as intense but relieving rather than painful.

Who Can Benefit

myoActivation® can help anyone dealing with persistent pain, stiffness, or mobility issues that haven’t fully resolved with other treatments. It’s especially effective for those recovering from injury, surgery, or repetitive strain, and for people who have been told they have tight or restrictive fascia.

Patients often seek myoActivation® for issues such as chronic back or neck pain, shoulder or hip tension, joint and tendon problems like golfer’s or tennis elbow, or to improve the appearance and movement of scars.

By restoring healthy fascial mobility, the therapy also supports lymphatic flow, circulation, and overall body balance, helping you move more freely and feel more at ease in your body.

How myoActivation® Can Help with Keloid and Post-Surgical Scars?

Keloid and post-surgical scars can create tightness, discomfort, and restriction in nearby tissues. myoActivation® helps improve both how scars feel and look by addressing the fascial tension beneath them.

Through gentle, precise needling, myoActivation® releases restrictions in the surrounding fascia, helping reduce pulling and stiffness. This improves local blood and lymphatic flow, supports healthier tissue remodeling, and often leads to scars becoming softer, flatter, and less discolored over time. As movement and circulation are restored, the area feels more comfortable, natural, and at ease.

What Makes myoActivation® Different from Acupuncture or Dry Needling?

At first glance, myoActivation® may look similar to acupuncture or dry needling, but the approach and purpose are quite different. While acupuncture is rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine and focuses on restoring energetic balance, and dry needling targets specific muscle trigger points, myoActivation® is guided by movement and fascia.

Each session begins with a functional assessment that helps identify the underlying “drivers” of pain or restriction, not just the site of symptoms. Treatment is then directed at these key areas using gentle, targeted needling techniques to release fascial tension, restore proper muscle activation, and improve mobility.

Because myoActivation® works with the body’s interconnected systems, muscles, fascia, and lymphatic flow, patients often experience broader benefits, such as improved posture, reduced pain, and enhanced scar healing.

  • No. As a Naturopathic Doctor, referrals from other healthcare providers are not required before seeking treatment, unless otherwise specified by your insurance coverage provider.

  • Each person’s response to treatment will be different. Many patients experience positive changes and improvements after each session. Typically, patients will require between 3-6 treatments to get sustained resolution.

  • Pain is a very subjective experience, and many people have some uneasiness when it comes to needles. That said, we work with you to make the experience as comfortable and reassuring as possible.

Most patients are often surprised that the treatment is not as uncomfortable as they had imagined, and that the benefit of having treatment far outweighs any discomfort experienced during treatment.
